It lists the 20 municipal fire services in Alberta whose members are represented by an IAFF local, per the Alberta Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics Association, Our Locals. Alberta has many more fire departments, including composite, paid on call and volunteer services. This list is narrower on purpose, because a candidate looking for full time career employment is usually looking at these.

Where do I find requirements, fees and intake dates?

On the department's own careers page, which is what every row links to. Each service publishes its own requirements and opens intake on its own schedule, so the employer is always more current than a summary. Northline has written a full guide for every department listed, each with dated sources and a review date, and links it beside the department.

Tell us and we will fix it. Every link on this page resolved when it was last checked on 4 September 2026, and municipal careers pages move often. The same goes for a department that belongs here and is missing or listed wrongly.

Which department should I apply to?

As many as you are willing to work for. Recruitment windows rarely line up, competition varies, and candidates who apply to one department and wait often lose a year. Preparation transfers between processes better than most candidates expect, because the interview and the physical standard are more alike than different across services.
