Application Timing
Edmonton currently states that firefighter applications are accepted from January 1 to 31 each year for potential recruitment classes employed in the following year.
Do not wait until January to organize required documents. The City requires applicants to address the published requirements and deadlines, and supporting evidence may be required during the process.
Current Scoring Model
The process currently published by Edmonton assigns the scored stages as follows:

Edmonton has announced that the 2027 process is being updated. Treat these weightings as current published information, not a promise that the final 2027 process will remain identical.
Aptitude Test
The Edmonton aptitude test currently assesses areas that include:
- Oral information
- Written information
- Numerical skills
- Maps and diagrams
- Mechanical reasoning
- Teamwork and public speaking
The City currently states that the aptitude test accounts for 40 percent of the overall score and that there are no rewrites.

Resume Review
Edmonton currently assigns 10 percent of the overall score to resume review.
The City states that pre screen questions identify the assets being reviewed and that tangible assets require supporting evidence and references.
This changes how you should build your resume. A strong claim is useful only if you can document it when requested.
Multiple Mini Interviews
Edmonton currently publishes a seven station Multiple Mini Interview process.
At each station, the candidate receives one question, has two minutes to gather their thoughts, and then has five minutes to respond.
This format rewards clear thinking under time pressure. Practise selecting the central issue in the question, organizing a response quickly, and finishing within the available time.

Physical Fitness Test
Edmonton’s physical fitness test is administered through the University of Alberta Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation.
The current City information describes a treadmill test followed by six task specific job simulation tests. The test is pass or fail within the recruitment process.

Later Stages
The current Edmonton process also includes later stage requirements such as a ride along, psychological assessment where required, eligibility list placement, threshold knowledge testing, job related testing, medical assessment, references, and final hiring requirements.

2026 EFRS MMI PREPARATION
Know the interview format before you walk in.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services provides candidates with a specific Multi Mini Interview format. Northline uses that published structure to make your preparation deliberate, timed, and relevant to the actual interview environment.
WHAT EFRS TELLS CANDIDATES
Expect more than one kind of interview question.
The 2026 EFRS candidate tip sheet tells applicants to prepare for conventional, situational, and behavioural questions related to the department's Mission and Core Values.
Candidates are also expected to know the job posting, their pre-screen responses, and the relevant examples from their own work, education, training, accomplishments, and life experience.

- Choose the evidence. Select one strong example or decision pathway.
- Map the answer. Decide your opening, key actions, result, and learning.

A CRITICAL EFRS DETAIL
Your interviewers have not seen your résumé.
EFRS specifically tells candidates that the interview panel has not reviewed their résumé before the interview. Your experience does not receive credit simply because it appears on your application. You need to introduce the relevant experience, skills, training, and abilities inside the answer when they support the question being asked.
