Northline is a fire and emergency services training company based in Canmore, Alberta.
We provide fire service qualification programs, incident command training, first aid and resuscitation training, firefighter recruitment preparation, and consulting.
Some programs can be purchased directly. Department and team training is scoped around the organization and the program.

Why Northline Exists
Departments should not have to spend hours working out which course they need, where to send their members, or who issues the certification. Individuals should be able to see the prerequisites, price, delivery format, and next step before they register.
Northline keeps that process straightforward. We tell you what we can deliver, what we need from you, and how the program works before you commit.
How we work
How We Work
- Before you book
- For department and team training, the scope is agreed before dates are held. You know what is being delivered, how many people it covers, where it will happen, and what each side is responsible for.
- Before the course
- Location, equipment, prerequisites, member information, and anything else needed for delivery are confirmed ahead of time. The course day should not be the first time anyone works out the logistics.
- Certification
- Northline provides the training. When another organization is responsible for testing, certification, or credential issuance, we tell you that before you commit and confirm the pathway for your program.
- Course information
- For individual courses, prerequisites, delivery format, and current pricing are shown on the applicable course page wherever possible.
- If we cannot deliver it
- We say so. If a program is outside our scope or cannot be delivered the way you need it, we would rather tell you early than sell you the wrong thing.
Core team
The Core Team
Northline is led by River Beattie and Logan Sabourin, Co-Founders, with Haley Fanning as Medical Programs Lead. All three work in the fire and emergency services and all three are directly involved in how the company runs.
River Beattie
Co-Founder & Managing Director
River is a firefighter, Advanced Care Paramedic, and emergency services educator whose work spans municipal fire service, advanced prehospital care, aeromedical response, clinical practice, technical rescue, and remote operations.
His technical rescue background includes rope rescue, confined space rescue, water rescue, and industrial rescue. He also holds NFPA qualifications in fire service instruction, fire officer leadership, firefighter operations, apparatus operations, aircraft rescue and firefighting, hazardous materials response, and wildland firefighting. That breadth gives him a practical understanding of how fire, medical, and rescue disciplines come together during complex incidents.
At Northline, River leads company strategy, course development, medical education, firefighter recruitment coaching, and daily operations. He builds training around the decisions responders and candidates have to make: understanding the standard, communicating clearly, performing the skill, and remaining effective under pressure.
His approach is direct, demanding, and grounded in current frontline practice.

Logan Sabourin
Co-Founder & Director of Training
Logan is a Deputy Fire Chief, Advanced Care Paramedic, emergency manager, and emergency services educator with more than a decade of experience across fire, EMS, and public safety. His career spans rural and municipal paid on call departments, urban unionized fire service environments, and Advanced Care Paramedic practice.
He has worked across frontline operations, training, officer development, and senior municipal leadership. That experience has given him a clear understanding of how staffing models, budgets, governance, operational risk, and training needs differ between emergency services agencies. His background also includes aircraft rescue and firefighting, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, incident command, and municipal emergency management.
Logan earned his Advanced Care Paramedic diploma with honours and is completing a Bachelor of Applied Business in Emergency Services, with studies focused on strategic management, emergency management, crisis leadership, and organizational preparedness. He holds NFPA professional qualifications across firefighting, apparatus operations, aircraft rescue and firefighting, hazardous materials, technical rescue, incident safety, instruction, and fire officer leadership. He is also an experienced instructor and evaluator who has developed, delivered, and assessed competency based training for emergency services professionals.
At Northline, Logan leads fire service programming, officer and instructor development, department training, and consulting. His standard is straightforward: training must be defensible, practical, and usable after the classroom ends.

Medical Programs Lead ยท BHSc, ACP
Haley is an Advanced Care Paramedic, full time firefighter with Canmore Fire Rescue, and Bachelor of Health Sciences graduate. She also practices clinically in Banff, bringing together frontline firefighting, advanced prehospital care, and healthcare education.
As a BLS, ACLS, and PALS instructor, Haley teaches the clinical knowledge behind resuscitation while keeping the focus on what makes teams effective: early recognition, clear roles, strong communication, sound decisions, and deliberate hands on practice. Her instruction is grounded in current clinical work and the realities of providing care with limited time, incomplete information, and multiple disciplines working together.
At Northline, Haley leads medical programming, clinical education, simulation based training, and organizational medical readiness. She develops education for emergency responders, healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary teams that need more than a certificate.
Her focus is preparing teams to recognize deterioration early, organize the response, communicate clearly, and deliver coordinated care through the first critical minutes of an emergency.
Instructional network
The Core Team and the Wider Instructional Network
River, Logan and Haley are Northline's core team. They are accountable for what Northline delivers and are directly involved in how the company runs.
Around that core, Northline builds the instructional team for each course from appropriately qualified contract instructors and subject matter specialists, selected against the program, the required qualifications and the scope of the project. That is deliberate. It means a department gets instructors matched to the work rather than whoever happens to be on staff.
For NFPA delivery, assigned instructors must hold the applicable standard and level, plus the required instructor qualifications. Contract instructors and specialists are engaged by Northline, not employed by it.

Based in Canmore
Northline is based in Canmore and serves departments, organizations, and individuals across Alberta.
We do not operate a public training facility. Department and team training can be delivered at the client location where the program allows it. Courses available online can be accessed without travelling to Canmore.
