Questions about NFPA courses, certification and booking

Our NFPA fire courses lead to Pro Board certification. You complete the training with Northline, then an evaluator who was not part of your instruction conducts your evaluation and submits your results to the province. Successful candidates receive a Pro Board seal issued through the Government of Alberta Firefighter Certification Program.

Coursework for the fire training programs is delivered online. Individual online enrolment is not open yet, and departments book these programs as group delivery. Certification examination format, location and scheduling vary by course and are confirmed before anything is booked.

Yes. We provide Standard First Aid (SFA), Advanced First Aid (AFA), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), delivered for fire service, EMS, healthcare, and workplace teams across Alberta.

No formal NFPA prerequisite is required for Fire Officer I, though previous operational fire service experience is strongly recommended. Fire Officer II recommends Fire Officer I certification or equivalent leadership experience, though this isn't always a hard prerequisite. Fire Service Instructor I has no prior NFPA certification requirement, though active involvement in a municipal or industrial fire department with some exposure to training delivery is expected. Fire Service Instructor II requires NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor I with a Pro Board or IFSAC seal, plus active, recent experience delivering training.
