Course information
What certifications do your fire courses provide?
Candidates who pass the required assessments and meet all prerequisites are certified through Pro Board. The exception is NFPA 1002 Driver, Pumper and Aerial, where candidates are certified through the provincial program.
Are these courses entirely online?
Departments book these programs as group delivery, run in person at your hall, a regional facility or a location you arrange, on your dates. Individual online enrolment is being prepared. Certification examination format, location and scheduling vary by course, and we confirm them before anything is booked.
What is the difference between NFPA and Pro Board?
NFPA sets the technical standards our fire training curriculum is built around. Pro Board is a separate accreditation system for certifying agencies. Northline delivers the training and, on the qualifications in Alberta's program, runs the testing. Certification pathways vary by course, and we confirm yours with you before anything is booked.
Do you offer training for medical responders?
Yes. We provide Standard First Aid (SFA), Advanced First Aid (AFA), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), delivered for fire service, EMS, healthcare, and workplace teams across Alberta.

Fire Officer entry requirements
Alberta's current certification prerequisites for Fire Officer I are NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II, hazardous materials awareness and operations, NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor I and current Standard First Aid with CPR Level C. Instructor standards
Fire Service Instructor I is open at any NFPA certification level, and active involvement in a municipal or industrial fire department with some exposure to training delivery is expected. Fire Service Instructor II requires NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor I with a Pro Board or IFSAC seal, plus active, recent experience delivering training. How does certification work?
Northline delivers the training and runs the testing. Each candidate is evaluated by someone other than their instructor. Candidates who pass the required assessments and meet all prerequisites are certified through Pro Board, except on NFPA 1002, where they are certified through the provincial program. Health and Safety Officer and Incident Safety Officer sit outside Alberta's program: Northline delivers the training, and the testing and certification are administered by an external certifying body.

How do I book a course for my department?

How are examination dates arranged?
We confirm examination arrangements with you while scoping the course: the pathway, the evaluator and the timing for your program, all before anything is scheduled. Arrange any later change directly with us.
Where are the in-person examinations held?

Is there a registration deadline?
We scope, quote and schedule training on request, around your dates. Tell us when you need people trained and we will work back from that.
