Where Canmore hiring stands
On 25 October 2026 the seven postings on the Town of Canmore job board were all outside Fire-Rescue. The Town says Canmore Fire-Rescue is often hiring, and that any open positions are posted on its Career Opportunities page, which leads to that job board.
Openings are posted as they come up, so check the job board regularly and keep your documents ready.

About Canmore Fire-Rescue
The Town says Canmore Fire-Rescue serves a population of more than 17,000 in the Town of Canmore and along the Trans Canada Highway, and gives mutual aid to the MD of Bighorn, Morley, Kananaskis Country, the Town of Banff and Banff National Park. Its members are full time, casual and paid response firefighters.
A Town posting for a Deputy Chief, Training and Safety, from December 2022, described one fire station at 1021 Railway Avenue in downtown Canmore, full time firefighters represented by the IAFF, and specialized response to hazardous materials and to ice, water, rope, trench and heavy rescue.

Who can apply
The Town sets the requirements in each posting, so the next Fire-Rescue posting is the reliable list.
The Town's 2017 Fire-Rescue Master Plan, still linked from the Fire-Rescue page, gives an older picture. It said full time and career casual firefighters were registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an EMR, PCP or ACP. Paid response firefighters received first aid and CPR training from the department, with registration optional. It also said new paid response firefighters received ten straight days of recruit training, then six months of probationary training on Wednesday nights.
If you are aiming at a full time or casual position, the 2017 plan points to an Alberta College of Paramedics registration. Read each posting for which of the three roles it is, and for its own list.

The Town of Canmore hiring process
The Town publishes one Hiring Guide for every role. It covers Town roles in general, so a Fire-Rescue posting may add its own testing. The steps it lists are these.
Apply
You apply with a resume and a cover letter. The Town says the resume should show the education, skills and experience that prove you can do the core job, and the cover letter should say who you are, what excites you about the role, what you would bring, and answer every question in the posting.
Initial call
Depending on the role, the Town may set up a 15 to 30 minute phone or virtual call with a recruiter or hiring manager, covering your experience, the hours and schedule, pay, the work environment and benefits.
Interview
The Town says its interview questions touch on five topics: motivation, skills and experience, respect and integrity, service, and teamwork. Prepare at least one example for each. The Town says it wants to get to know you as you are, and suggests using your own questions at the end to show you have researched the Town.

Reference and background checks
The top candidate gives two or three references who directly managed them in a previous role, and the Town runs a Standard Criminal Record Check before any offer.
Decision
The Town says the hiring manager will tell you the decision once the interviews and checks are done, whatever the outcome.
