How the Certification Pathway Works
Northline delivers eligible NFPA training programs and conducts the evaluations within the provincial pathway. The Government of Alberta Firefighter Certification Program administers the certification examination process and the certificate application. Northline confirms the current pathway and prerequisites before you enrol, so you know what applies to your course.
Successful candidates who complete the required assessments and meet the Alberta Firefighter Certification Program prerequisites can receive Pro Board certification from the Government of Alberta.
What Northline Provides
- NFPA course delivery and course administration.
- Current prerequisite review before the certification stage.
- Confirmation of the applicable Alberta pathway before you enrol.
- Department group delivery where the program and facility requirements allow it.
Current Alberta Fire Officer and Instructor Standards
Alberta currently tests and certifies Fire Officer Levels I and II under NFPA 1021, 2020 edition, and Fire Service Instructor Levels I and II under NFPA 1041, 2019 edition.
- Fire Officer I, NFPA 1021
- Fire Officer II, NFPA 1021
- Fire Service Instructor I, NFPA 1041
- Fire Service Instructor II, NFPA 1041
Those four are the individual self paced courses, which are still being developed and are not open for enrolment. If you are a department training a group, that is open now: see Fire Officer for departments and Fire Service Instructor for departments.
Certification Requirements Still Matter
Pro Board certification is earned, not automatically issued with course attendance. Candidates must complete the required examination and evaluations, meet the current prerequisites and submit a complete certification application within the Alberta program timelines.
Northline confirms the applicable pathway before enrolment so you know which requirements apply to your course.
