Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as the online Fire Officer course?

This page covers department and group delivery, which is open now and quoted for your roster. The individual self paced courses have separate pages and are not open for enrolment yet.

Are Level I and Level II separate?

Yes. They are separately evaluated and separately certified, and Level II requires Level I. Departments commonly run Level I for a group of members moving into officer roles and bring them back for Level II later. A program can be scoped either way.

That prerequisite list is long. What if our members are short of some of it?

We check the roster before dates are held. Northline also delivers Firefighter I and II, hazardous materials awareness and operations, and Fire Service Instructor I, so missing prerequisites can be included in the proposal.

Can several departments run this together?

Yes. Departments in the same county or region can combine their rosters and run the program together. The proposal can cover the combined roster, location and schedule.

How long does it take and how many members can attend?

Both are set in the proposal rather than fixed in advance. They depend on the level, how many members you are developing and what they already hold. Tell us what you are trying to build and the scope will state both in writing.

Developing officers in your department?

Send the level, roster size, location, preferred dates and what your members already hold. We will confirm the current Alberta prerequisites and provide the full scope in writing.

Request Fire Officer training for your department

Tell us how many officers you are developing, which level they need and your timeframe. If you are not sure what your members already hold, say so and we will work through the prerequisites with you. We check each member against the current Alberta prerequisite list before dates are held. Missing prerequisites are identified in the proposal.
