Level I and Level II
Level I is the working firefighter standard: personal protective equipment and self contained breathing apparatus, fire behaviour, ropes and knots, forcible entry, ground ladders, search and rescue, hose deployment and fire streams, ventilation, water supply, salvage and overhaul, and operating safely as part of a crew under supervision.
Level II builds on that toward a member who works with less direct supervision and supports the wider incident: coordinating an assigned task, larger flow hose and nozzle selection, supply line operations, foam, preserving evidence of fire origin and cause, protective systems, and the reporting that follows an incident.
The two levels are separately evaluated and separately certified. A member can hold Level I without Level II, and Level II requires Level I. Departments commonly certify a recruit class to Level I and bring members back for Level II later, so a program can be scoped either way.
Live fire and practical training
Live fire evolutions are arranged at a suitable host or partner training facility. Northline does not operate its own burn building, and which facility is used depends on your location and what is available. That arrangement is confirmed in the written scope before any dates are held, rather than left to be sorted out later.
Scope, sequence and practical requirements are confirmed with you when the group booking is scoped, against the current Alberta requirements rather than against a fixed syllabus.
Where it leads
NFPA 1001 is the base of the Alberta pathway rather than the end of it. Firefighter Level I and Level II are both listed among Alberta's prerequisites for NFPA 1021 Fire Officer, alongside NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor I, so a department planning promotions usually confirms where its members sit against 1001 first.
Departments developing several members at once scope these together as one officer development program.

Classroom and practical work can run at your hall or training ground, a regional or partner facility, or another location arranged for the program.

How certification works
Northline delivers the training and conducts the evaluations within the provincial pathway. The evaluator is never the person who instructed the candidate. Exams and skill sheets are submitted to the province.
The Government of Alberta administers the examination and certificate application. Candidates who pass the required assessments and meet all prerequisites can receive Pro Board certification from the Government of Alberta.
Department and group delivery
This training is scoped and quoted for a department or group. There is no standalone course for one person to enrol in.

What are the Alberta prerequisites for Firefighter I and II?
For Firefighter Level I: successful Level I evaluation, hazardous materials awareness and operations under an accepted NFPA 470, 472 or 1072 pathway, and current Standard First Aid with CPR Level C. Level II adds Firefighter Level I itself and the Level II evaluation on top of the same list. Requirements can change, so Northline confirms the current Alberta prerequisites before the certification stage.

Can one person enrol, or is this group only?
This is delivered to departments and groups. There is no standalone course for one person to enrol in. If you have one or two members to train rather than a recruit class, tell us and we will confirm their options directly.
How long does it take and how many members can attend?
Both are set in the proposal rather than fixed in advance. They depend on which levels you need, how many members you are training, what they already hold and how your schedule works. Tell us what you are trying to build and the scope will state both in writing.

Yes.
