The standard
The Alberta Firefighter Certification Program currently certifies Fire Service Instructor I under NFPA 1041, 2019 edition.
The current provincial prerequisite document lists successful Fire Service Instructor I evaluation for this level as its NFPA requirement.

How certification works
Northline delivers the Fire Service Instructor I training and runs the testing. Each candidate is evaluated by someone other than their instructor. Candidates who pass the required assessments and meet all prerequisites are certified through Pro Board.

Do I need a lower level NFPA certification before Instructor I?
Alberta's current certification prerequisite document starts Fire Service Instructor I at any NFPA certification level. Successful Instructor I evaluation is required for certification.
How is the course delivered?
Department and group delivery is open now. Northline delivers the course to your department, on your dates, and confirms the certification pathway with the quote. Individual online enrolment is being prepared; the form on this page tells you when it opens.
What does it cost?
Department and group delivery is quoted in writing for your roster, location and dates. Tuition for the individual self paced course is published when enrolment opens, and Northline confirms any examination and certification fees at that point.
What comes after Instructor I?
Fire Service Instructor II builds on Instructor I for members taking on lesson development, instructional planning and broader training program responsibilities.
