Northline delivers NFPA 1006 Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Awareness and Operations to fire departments and rescue teams across Alberta.

Awareness and Operations
Awareness is for members who arrive at a collision without being the ones performing the extrication. It covers scene and traffic hazards, vehicle safety systems, stabilization principles, and supporting the crew doing the work.
Operations is the working level: stabilizing the vehicle, managing glass, creating access and disentangling the patient, operating hydraulic and hand tools, and coordinating the removal with the medical side of the incident.

Other technical rescue disciplines
NFPA 1006 covers several disciplines and Alberta certifies them separately. Northline also delivers rope rescue and confined space rescue. Departments building a technical rescue capability commonly scope more than one together.
Where training happens
Classroom and practical work can run at your hall or training ground, a regional or partner facility, or another location arranged for the program.
The written scope confirms the site, equipment and practical requirements before dates are held.
How certification works
Northline delivers the training and conducts the evaluations within the provincial pathway. The evaluator is never the person who instructed the candidate. Exams and skill sheets are submitted to the province.
The Government of Alberta administers the examination and certificate application. Candidates who pass the required assessments and meet all prerequisites can receive Pro Board certification from the Government of Alberta.
Department and group delivery
This training is scoped and quoted for a department or group. There is no standalone course for one person to enrol in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same thing as extrication training?
Yes. Alberta certifies the qualification under the name Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue, and Alberta's own listed resource for it is Principles of Passenger Vehicle Extrication. The certification is issued under the Alberta name, which is the name used throughout this page.
What is the difference between Awareness and Operations?
Awareness covers recognizing the incident, scene and traffic hazards, stabilizing the situation and supporting a qualified crew. Operations is the working level: stabilization, glass management, disentanglement, tool operation and removing the patient with the crew.
Do we need vehicles and props for the practical work?
Yes, and the arrangement is confirmed in the written scope before dates are held. Departments commonly source vehicles locally, and Northline will confirm what the level requires and what you already have rather than leaving it to the day.
Does this cover heavy vehicles or machinery?
No. This qualification is scoped to common passenger vehicles, which is what its Alberta title says. Heavy vehicle and machinery rescue are different capabilities and are not covered by this certification. If that is what you need, tell us and we will be straight with you about what is and is not available.
How long does it take and how many members can attend?
Both are set in the proposal rather than fixed in advance. They depend on the level, group size, your tools and your site. Tell us what you need and the scope will state both in writing.
