Confined space rescue training

Northline delivers NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue Awareness and Operations to fire departments, industrial teams and site rescue crews across Alberta.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Awareness and Operations?

Awareness is the recognition and non entry level: identifying a confined space incident, understanding the atmospheric and physical hazards, securing the scene and supporting a qualified team. Operations is the entry level, where members enter and perform the rescue as part of a team.

Does this certification satisfy our OHS obligations?

That is a question for your own occupational health and safety requirements and your hazard assessment, and Northline will not answer it for you. This is a certification in the NFPA 1006 confined space rescue qualification. What your site is required to have in place is determined by your regulator and your own assessment, not by holding a certificate.

Can industrial site teams take this rather than a fire department?

Yes. Alberta's certification program serves municipal and industrial fire rescue services, and confined space rescue is commonly scoped for industrial and site rescue teams as well as municipal departments.

What do we need on site for the practical work?

Practical requirements, equipment, atmospheric monitoring and the space used for evaluation are confirmed in the written scope before dates are held. Training in spaces representative of what your team covers is usually the better outcome, and we will confirm what is workable with you.

How long does it take and how many members can attend?

Both are set in the proposal rather than fixed in advance. They depend on the level, group size, your equipment and the spaces involved. Tell us what you need and the scope will state both in writing.

Planning confined space rescue training?

Send the level, group size, location and preferred dates. We will confirm the Alberta prerequisites, site and equipment requirements, evaluation, certification and price in writing.

Request confined space rescue training

Tell us the level, group size, location and preferred dates. Include the spaces your team covers and the equipment it uses. We check each member against the current Alberta prerequisite list before dates are held. Missing prerequisites are identified in the proposal.
