ICS I-100 training, delivered in person to Alberta teams
ICS I-100 introduces responders and organizational personnel to the Incident Command System: standardized command structures, common terminology and defined roles. Delivered to your group, at your hall or facility.

Who this is for
ICS Canada scopes I-100 broadly: personnel at first line supervisor, mid level management and command and general staff levels. In practice that means anyone in your organization who may find themselves working inside an incident command structure, which in a fire department is usually everybody.
I-100 is open to anyone. It is also the entry point to the rest of the pathway: I-200 requires it, and Alberta lists ICS 100 among the prerequisites for NFPA 470 hazardous materials operations and NFPA 1140 wildland certification.
What ICS I-100 covers
The objectives below are the ICS Canada course objectives for I-100, as ICS Canada publishes them. Every approved delivery covers the same ground, which is what makes the certificate portable.
- The purpose of ICS and the tasks common to any incident.
- The basic principles and features of the Incident Command System.
- The Incident Commander and the Command Staff functions.
- The General Staff functions: Operations, Planning, Logistics, and Finance and Administration.
- Incident facilities and how each is used.
- Common mobilization, on incident and demobilization responsibilities.
Training your organization
Northline delivers ICS I-100 to departments, municipalities, industrial organizations and emergency response teams as in person group training. Sessions are scheduled around your operational requirements and run at your hall, your facility or a location you arrange.
Part of an officer development program
Fire departments commonly take ICS alongside NFPA 1021 Fire Officer, NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor and safety officer training as one officer development program. Each component certifies through a different body, and that page sets out which is which before anything is scoped.
Where training happens
Classroom and practical work can run at your hall or training ground, a regional training facility, or another location arranged for the program.
The written scope confirms the site, equipment and practical requirements before dates are held.
How certification works
Northline delivers the training. Members who attend the full course and achieve 80% on the open book exam receive the recognized ICS Canada certificate of completion, the same credential issued by any approved agency in Alberta.
ICS sits outside the Alberta Fire Rescue Certification Program, and its certificate is issued by ICS Canada. In Alberta, ICS course delivery is administered by the Alberta Emergency Management Agency.
Department and group delivery
This training is delivered to departments and groups only, scoped and quoted for each one.
Have one or two members? Include them in the inquiry and we will confirm the available options.

“…played an integral role in my success at this stage!”
“This was my second time applying for the Calgary Fire Department. I made it to the interview process my first time and I did not perform well. I wanted to make sure that this wasn’t the case my second time around so I did my research and I signed up for the Firefighter Interview Intensive Course with Northline.
Working with River was a game changer. His help throughout the preparation process gave me a lot of confidence walking into the interview. The time and effort River put in to making sure that I understood the process and that I was properly prepared for whatever questions were asked played an integral role in my success at this stage!
If you are an aspiring firefighter looking for someone who truly cares and wants you to succeed, I highly recommend reaching out to Northline!”
