Canadian Red Cross Advanced First Aid develops the assessment, treatment and ongoing care skills needed for more demanding workplace and response environments. Alberta currently recognizes the Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR/AED Level C course at the Advanced First Aid level.

What You Will Learn
Detailed patient assessment
Structured assessment, reassessment and ongoing care for patients who may require extended support before transfer to a health care facility.
Trauma and bleeding emergencies
Practical care for significant injuries, hemorrhage, musculoskeletal trauma and other workplace emergencies.
Medical emergencies
Recognition and care for acute medical conditions, poisoning and environmental emergencies within the first aid scope.
Ongoing care and transport preparation
Monitoring, documentation, patient support and preparation for transfer when care continues over a longer period.
Multiple casualty and workplace response
Scene organization, prioritization and communication when more than one patient or responder is involved.
Alberta approval level
The current Alberta approved first aid training agency list includes Canadian Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR/AED Level C at the Advanced First Aid approval level.
What the required level depends on

Who Advanced First Aid Is For
Advanced First Aid is intended for people who need a higher level of workplace first aid capability, including designated advanced first aiders and personnel working in higher hazard, remote or operational environments where more extensive patient care may be required.
Duration and Certification
The Canadian Red Cross describes Advanced First Aid as an 80 to 120 hour program depending on jurisdiction. Successful completion results in a three year Advanced First Aid certification. Northline confirms the current Alberta delivery format, learner requirements and scheduling before enrolment.
