Red Deer Emergency Services: the aptitude stage
Red Deer Emergency Services runs a multi stage firefighter recruitment process. Below is what the department's own page says about it, and how to prepare for the written aptitude stage.
What the department publishes
The department does not publish a single ordered list. It states a written aptitude evaluation of about two and a half hours covering word definitions, spelling, arithmetic, geometry, mechanical ability and problem solving, with a minimum passing mark and no publisher named; a seven station physical endurance and agility test at Red Deer Polytechnic or the University of Alberta; a medical examination at no cost, pass or fail; and oral interviews by senior officers. The order across these stages is not stated. Red Deer runs a combined FireMedic role and requires paramedic registration.

How the lab prepares you
The lab holds 629 questions with a worked explanation on every one. It starts with a 32 question diagnostic that shows which areas cost you points, builds a daily plan from the result, and brings each mistake back on a later day as a fresh question on the same skill. It covers numerical, reading, mechanical, spatial, logic, memory and attention, situational reasoning, and an oral information briefing.
