Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services: the aptitude stage

Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services runs a multi stage firefighter recruitment process. Below is what the department's own page says about it, and how to prepare for the written aptitude stage.

The hiring stages

  1. Complete the application requirements
  2. Application review after the posting closes
  3. Physical testing, by invitation
  4. New recruit training

What the department publishes

The written stage is described only as a Written Firefighter Aptitude exam, in house, with no publisher named. The process also lists a behavioural descriptive interview, a medical written exam with scenario testing, written and in person psychological evaluation, and a comprehensive medical assessment; these are not further sequenced on the page. Physical testing is by invitation. The department requires Alberta College of Paramedics registration.

How the lab prepares you

The lab holds 629 questions with a worked explanation on every one. It starts with a 56 question diagnostic that shows which areas cost you points, builds a daily plan from the result, and brings each mistake back on a later day as a fresh question on the same skill. It covers numerical, reading, mechanical, spatial, logic, memory and attention, situational reasoning, and an oral information briefing.
