Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Training in Alberta
Heart & Stroke PALS is an advanced resuscitation course for healthcare providers involved in the care of critically ill pediatric patients. Northline offers individual and private team delivery through certified instructors.
Who PALS Is For
PALS is designed for healthcare professionals who may assess, treat or participate in the resuscitation of critically ill or injured infants and children.
- Paramedics and other appropriately qualified prehospital clinicians.
- Nurses and physicians.
- Respiratory therapists.
- Other healthcare professionals whose role requires pediatric advanced resuscitation training.
What You Will Practise
Early recognition of pediatric deterioration
Use a systematic pediatric assessment to identify respiratory distress, respiratory failure, shock and other warning signs.
Airway and breathing emergencies
Practise oxygenation, ventilation, airway support, monitoring and escalation within a pediatric resuscitation team.
Pediatric shock
Recognize poor perfusion and work through a structured approach to pediatric circulatory emergencies.
Bradycardia, tachycardia and arrest
Assess rhythm and clinical stability, then organize the appropriate team response.
Team based pediatric resuscitation
Coordinate roles, CPR quality, communication and treatment priorities during pediatric emergencies.
Course Preparation and Prerequisites
Heart & Stroke describes PALS as building on BLS skills and, where applicable, Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization training. Current prerequisite and precourse requirements apply. Northline confirms them before enrolment.
Certification
Heart & Stroke PALS certification is valid for two years after successful completion.

If your employer or regulator requires a specific provider's card, confirm that first; if the Heart & Stroke course is not what they accept, we say so rather than run the wrong one.
