What ICS I-300 covers
Participants examine the operational and planning demands of expanding incidents, including command organization, incident objectives, operational periods, resource management, Unified Command, command and general staff responsibilities, and the Incident Action Planning process. The course emphasizes practical application, group discussion, incident documentation and scenario based problem solving.
The objectives below are the ICS Canada course objectives for I-300, the level built around an incident that outgrows the initial response.
- A review of ICS fundamentals and organization, including reporting and working relationships.
- Unified Command, for multi jurisdictional and multi agency operations.
- Incident management operations as an incident expands.
- Resource management.
- The planning process, including developing an Incident Action Plan.
- Demobilization and transfer of command.
Eligibility
The five month gap after in class I-200 is the requirement departments most often discover late, and it applies to every candidate. Tell us when your members completed I-200 and Northline will confirm eligibility before anything is scheduled.
Part of an officer development program
Fire departments commonly take ICS alongside NFPA 1021 Fire Officer, NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor and safety officer training as one officer development program. Each component certifies through a different body, and that page sets out which is which before anything is scoped.
Where training happens
Classroom and practical work can run at your hall or training ground, a regional training facility, or another location arranged for the program.
The written scope confirms the site, equipment and practical requirements before dates are held.
How certification works
Northline delivers the training. Members who attend the full course and achieve 80% on the open book exam receive the recognized ICS Canada certificate of completion, the same credential issued by any approved agency in Alberta.
ICS sits outside the Alberta Fire Rescue Certification Program, and its certificate is issued by ICS Canada. In Alberta, ICS course delivery is administered by the Alberta Emergency Management Agency.

Frequently asked questions
What is the prerequisite for ICS I-300?
ICS I-200, completed in class at least five months before enrolling in I-300. This is Alberta's requirement, in class I-200 is the only route, and it applies to every candidate. Tell us when your members completed I-200 and Northline confirms eligibility before anything is scheduled.
What does a member receive on completion?
An ICS Canada certificate of completion, issued on full attendance and 80% on the open book exam. It is the same recognized credential issued by any approved agency in Alberta. It is the ICS Canada certificate, issued outside the Alberta Fire Rescue Certification Program.
Can one person enrol, or is this group only?
This is delivered to departments, municipalities, industrial organizations and response teams as in person group training, scheduled on request. If you have one or two people to train, tell us and we will confirm the available options.
Does Northline deliver ICS I-400?
Northline delivers I-100, I-200 and I-300.
